“I’m truly thankful for the opportunities”

Where is Flores Bakehaus now?

This time last year, Ernie Flores, owner of Flores Bakehaus, (pictured above along with her husband, Roberto Flores) graduated from The Business Cohort ten-week class and became an official Member.  She was ready to begin baking and processing her products on a larger scale. She was presented an opportunity to use a commercial kitchen, but due to renovations, the kitchen would be closed until further notice. Ernie continued baking from home to sell at vendor markets. While Ernie waited, she received communication from two businesses interested in selling her baked goods once she could grow.

As a member in The Business Cohort, Ernie obtained access to networking, education, structure, and resources. Ernie had the opportunity to apply for grants to purchase assets that would further her business. She applied for and received two grants totaling $1,200. The first grant helped pay for her certification to begin food manufacturing/selling wholesale. The second grant paid for a storage rack to organize products, ingredients, etc. in the commercial kitchen. Both of these grants paved the way for Ernie to scale her business when the commercial kitchen opened.

Once Ernie produced more product through the commercial kitchen opening, she was invited to provide a tasting with Watermark Community Church. Flores Bakehaus baked goods were a hit! She connected with the Director of Watermark Coffee Shop who was looking for a new vendor. After a few discussions, Ernie made a service agreement, and the deal was done! The first day she delivered her products was on July 24th, 2023.

Ernie now has weekly deliveries with an inventory of baked goods to Watermark Coffee Shop. Additionally, she also partners with: Everyday Works Coffee & Market, Olmo Market, Coffee Del Rey, and Juju's Coffee. Her business is scaling and flourishing!

“The Business Cohort has been one of the best experiences. I felt supported during and after the program. The grant process was easy, and the monthly alumni meetings have been a great way to network and help other Members. I'm truly thankful for the opportunities Watermark CDC provided.”
