Empowerment at Rosemont Apartments! 🏘️
🎉 Earlier this year, we shared how our Community Financial Advocate, Josue Contreras, has been building strong relationships with local banks through consistent, grassroots work. Over the past 10 months, Josue has engaged with 252 individuals to understand their financial services needs - consumer, mortgage, or commercial - and share resources with them. We’re excited to show you what that effort has made possible in a few stories below.
During eight seminars this Spring, our amazing banking partners hosted hands-on workshops at the Rosemont Apartments near Watermark South Dallas. They covered real-life topics like personal banking, credit, home buying, and starting a business—while also building real relationships with residents. 🏦
One of those residents is Diona (pictured above, right, in red)—a proud mom, small business owner, and future homeowner. She joined us during sessions five and six, where she learned more about credit and the path to buying a home. Thanks to these conversations, Diona now sees homeownership as a real possibility—and she’s aiming to start that journey by the end of 2025. 🏡
While hosting these seminars, we have also been collaborating with our local business owners through The Business Cohort. They are sharing their stories directly with our bank partners and taking steps to open accounts and unlock the capital they need.
And a huge praise—Luis and his wife, Selena, (pictured below) officially formalized their business with an LLC. They opened their first business bank account with TBK Bank to provide custodial services to churches.
We’re just getting started—and can’t wait to keep this momentum going with more seminars this summer. Let’s go! 🚀
Additionally, we are continuing to build relationships with homeowners and tenants in the Rose Garden neighborhood, closest to Watermark South Dallas. Our team is going door to door—knocking on all 89 homes—to connect neighbors with valuable resources available through our banking partners. 🏡
We’re focusing on empowering our neighbors to overcome common barriers like homestead exemptions, mortgages, asset retention, wills, and more.
